Is DramaBox Free? What It Actually Costs
Free to download, free to start, and not free to finish. The honest answer is that DramaBox is a paid app with a generous trial built into the front of every series.

The short answer
DramaBox is free to download and free to start watching. Every series gives you a run of episodes at no cost. Once you are invested, the episodes lock, and from that point you either pay or you stop. That is the entire business model, and it is the same one every major app in this category uses, including ours.
Where the paywall actually lands
The design is deliberate and it is worth naming. A short drama series runs 40 to 80 episodes of about a minute each. The free episodes at the front are enough to establish the hook — the secret baby, the contract marriage, the identity reveal — and the lock arrives at the point where you most want to know what happens next.
That is not a criticism so much as a description. It works because the format is engineered for it. But it does mean the honest answer to “is it free” is: free until it is interesting.
The prices on its App Store listing
DramaBox is published by STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. and listed as free with in-app purchases. The purchase tiers shown publicly on its App Store page, checked 19 August 2026:
| Type | Tiers listed |
|---|---|
| Membership | $5.99 · $17.99 · $19.99 |
| Special offer | $4.99 · $9.99 · $19.99 |
A caution about every other number you will read on this subject. Plenty of sites publish confident figures for DramaBox’s weekly, monthly and annual plans. We checked several and they contradict each other outright — one page gave the annual plan as two different prices in the same article. Both apps in this category run regional pricing and promotional rates, so there is no single true number, and we would rather leave a gap than fill it with someone else’s guess.
How to find out what you are actually paying
This matters more than any figure in this article. DramaBox runs different price tiers in different countries, and promotional rates for new subscribers, so the number on your receipt is often not the number on anyone’s list. Check the receipt instead:
- iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, then tap DramaBox. The renewal price and the renewal date are both on that screen.
- Android: open the Google Play app, tap your profile icon, tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then DramaBox.
Two numbers are worth writing down: the amount, and the renewal period. A weekly charge and a monthly charge can look almost identical on a bank statement, and the gap between them over a year is roughly fourfold.
Subscription or coins?
DramaBox sells both: a recurring membership, and one-off purchases that unlock episodes individually. Its own App Store listing makes the case for the former, noting that a subscription unlocks all dramas on the app rather than a single one.
That is sound advice with one condition attached. The rough test:
- Watching across several series? A subscription almost certainly costs less than unlocking each one.
- Want to finish one specific series and stop? A one-off purchase may be cheaper — and it cannot quietly renew in three months’ time.
The second case is where people get caught. A subscription taken out to finish one series keeps billing long after the series ends.
What you can genuinely watch for nothing
More than you would expect, with patience. The free episodes at the start of every series add up if you are willing to sample widely rather than finish one thing. Apps in this category also hand out unlock currency for daily check-ins and for watching ads, which is a real route to free episodes — it just trades your time for the money instead.
Whether that trade is worth it depends on how much you value an evening. We went through the approach in more detail, and flagged the sites that promise free episodes and are not safe, in how to watch short dramas free.
If you have decided to stop paying
Cancel at the app store that sold it to you, not inside the app — there is no cancel button in DramaBox itself, which is why so many people think they have cancelled when they have not. Full steps: how to cancel a DramaBox subscription.
