ReelShort charges in two unrelated ways. Coins are bought once and spent to unlock episodes. A subscription renews until cancelled. If your spending was coins, switching apps will not fix it — every alternative below uses the same mechanic, and you will arrive with the same habit and a new catalogue. If it was a subscription, the comparison below is worth reading closely.

What each one charges, from its own App Store listing

Every figure below is a tier printed on that app's US App Store listing, checked 25 August 2026. Nothing here is from a secondary source, because secondary sources on this category contradict each other freely.

The thing that table is actually telling you

Four of the six alternatives name a weekly billing period on their own listing. ReelShort's does not name one at all.

That asymmetry matters more than any individual price. A tier called "Subscription $19.99" tells you nothing about how often it recurs, and readers reasonably assume monthly, because almost every other app they pay for is monthly. A tier called "Weekly VIP $29.99" is telling you plainly.

Run the arithmetic once and it is hard to unsee:

• $19.99 weekly is roughly $1,039 a year.
• $29.99 weekly — NetShort's top listed tier — is roughly $1,559 a year.
• For comparison, the same money buys several years of most streaming services.

We are not claiming anyone is being deceived; a weekly tier is disclosed, priced and legal, and plenty of people knowingly pay for one week and stop. But if you are leaving ReelShort because the charges added up faster than expected, switching to a weekly tier at a similar headline number is the single most expensive mistake available to you, and it is the one most of these lists steer readers toward.

Picking by why you are leaving

"It got expensive"

Look at DramaBox first. Its listing publishes three membership tiers — $5.99, $17.99 and $19.99 — without naming a period, and its lowest tier is the lowest subscription entry point of any major app in the table. That is not a promise about what you will be charged; it is the only place in this comparison where a genuinely small subscription figure appears at all.

Then do the thing that actually saves money, which is not switching: work out whether you were on coins. Coin spending is invisible precisely because each unlock is small, and it is the most common cause of a bill that surprises people.

"I ran out of free episodes too fast"

This is a real difference between apps, and it is also the one thing no App Store listing discloses. Every app gives free episodes at the front of a series; where the wall falls — episode 5, episode 15 — varies, changes without notice, and is often tested per user. Anyone who publishes a precise number for this is guessing.

The honest advice: install two, start the same genre in both, and see which one lets you get far enough to care. It costs nothing but the download.

"I could not work out how to cancel"

"I want a different catalogue"

DramaBox is the strongest on localisation and non-English markets. PineDrama is the interesting one: published by TikTok Pte. Ltd., it is the newest entrant, has by far the fewest ratings in the table at 19K, and its listing currently displays no in-app purchases at all. New entrants are usually the friendliest free tier in a category, because they are buying audience rather than extracting from one. That advantage is temporary by nature.
